Humane genetica (Human Genetics)

This permanent education course intends to fulfil the need of a growing number of professions (from industry as well as from health care, for diagnostic or for research purposes) in which theoretical bases of all aspects of human genetics are useful or required. This course provides a uniform and adequate theoretical background for all those taking up responsibilities in human genetics-related activities within the different Belgian genetic centers.

The course is organized every two years. Next edition will start in October, 2025. Specific details will be announced early 2025.

Instructions for registration can be found in this file

This course is organized one Friday per month by each Human Genetics Center. The training days are alternately hosted by KUL, ULB, UGent, UCL, UA, ULiège and VUB.

You can find a brief programme below. For a more extensive programme, we refer to the website of the Belgian Society for Human Genetics. This is a preliminary programme, based on former editions of this course! More specific details about the edition that will start in 2025 will be announced early 2025.

ADDITONAL WORK

Students must contact the Program Organizing Committee (POC) member at the institution where they registered. Each student must produce a personal work on a genetic subject, under the supervision of a member of the Teaching College from his registration center. The contents should be equivalent to a publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal as first author, or to a thorough review of a genetic topic presented to an interdisciplinary seminar. The additional must produce a written report. The additional work amounts to 2 ECTS.

The final examination will take place in June and re-examination will be in September.

How to register?

  1. Ask approval in your current center:
  1. Register at your university (for this course) via student administration and pay the intuition fee to the university. (For students from UGent and VUB registration will be via UA)
  2. Register via BeSHG registration form
  3. Pay registration fee to BeSHG (or ask center to add you to the bulk payment, if your center works with a bulk payment
